MANILA - You've seen friends and family post the "public warning" on Facebook and may have been compelled to believe, but you have to stop sharing it now.

Social networking giant Facebook has reminded its users not to believe posts pertaining to "a notice to retain control over things you share" on the site.
"Our terms say clearly: You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it's shared through your privacy and application settings," they said in a post:
"That's how it works, and this hasn't changed," Facebook added.
Facebook emphasized, users can view information regarding who sees which posts in the Privacy Basics tab; and the particulars on which information Facebook collects, and how they are used, and shared are available through the Data Policy tab.

"We want you to be informed and in control of your experience on Facebook," it stated.
Over the weekend, several Facebook users reposted on their Timelines a warning saying "Everything you’ve ever posted becomes public from tomorrow."

"Even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry," the post followed.
It also contained a legal affidavit-sounding blurb about not giving "Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook" permission to use the "pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future."

Failure to copy and paste the statement, it said, "will be tactically allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates."
