Senator Alan Peter Cayetano announced on Saturday that the minimum salary increase of the Philippine National Police (PNP) would reach up to Php 50,000 before Christmas.

Senator Cayetano is confident with President Rodrigo Duterte’s promise to increase the salary of police officers, which he proclaimed during his presidential campaign.

“It’s very doable so if we have a supportive House of Representatives and Senate, merong pera, as early as before Christmas, maibibigay na natin ito sa ating mga pulis,” Cayetano said.

Senator Cayetano explained that the salary that cops were receiving was not enough for everyday living here in Metro Manila.

“Kung 20% ang buwis, P40,000 iuuwi mo. Ang cost of living sa Metro Manila 35,000. 35,000 tatlong anak mo, tamang tama lang yun sa pagkain, pa gamot, at pag aaral, bahay." Cayetano claimed.

President Duterte and Sen. Cayetano promised to increase the wages of the PNP to Php 75,000 up to Php 100,000 within 3 years of the administration to prevent possible illegal activities of police officials in order to provide for the needs of their families.
The current salary of a PO1 is only 15,000 a month.
